HYDE PARK — Slots are now open for Hyde Parkers who are ready to put their pies up against their neighbors in a no-holds-barred bake off.

Registration is now open at southsidepie.wordpress.com for the annual South Side Pie Competition from 2-5 p.m. Nov. 8 at the Hyde Park Neighborhood Club, 5480 S. Kenwood Ave.

There are few rules after paying the $25 entry fee. Curry powder? Not out of bounds. Pickled figs? Encouraged. Raw eggs? Actually, that’s the one ingredient off limits. All eggs must be cooked to 160 degrees or more.

The judges ask that each entrant provide two identical pies properly christened with a clever name.

The top three winners in each category — fruit, nut, sweet potato and pumpkin and creme — will receive a ribbon. All entrants will get to have their pies eaten by the judges and audience.

All proceeds got to help the Hyde Park Kenwood Hunger Programs.
