HYDE PARK — One of the directors of the new film “Homestretch” about homeless teens in Chicago public schools will host a screening at First Unitarian Church on Nov. 7.
Director Anne de Mare will talk about making the film about three homeless teens after the 6:30 p.m. screening at the church at 5650 S. Woodlawn Ave.
The film explores how the three cope with finding a sense of family in a disjointed foster care system, fight to get an education and define themselves in neighborhoods where they feel preyed on.
The documentary is the latest film from Chicago-based Kartemquin Films, which also made “The Interrupters” and “Hoop Dreams.”
