WICKER PARK — A number of streets in the neighborhood are scheduled to be resurfaced this week, officials say, including some that were to have been completed already.

Mike Flores, a scheduler for CDOT's resurfacing team, said that Concord Place as well as other nearby streets are scheduled to be resurfaced this week.

"It will be a busy week of resurfacing," Flores said.

Flores said Concord Place from Hoyne Avenue to Leavitt Street is scheduled to be resurfaced by Friday, along with Leavitt Street from North Avenue to Wabansia Avenue, as well as Winnebago Avenue from Bloomingdale Avenue to Wabansia.

In the Bucktown area, crews are scheduled to resurface Cortland Street between Paulina Street and Marshfield Avenue, as well as Winchester Avenue between Bloomingdale Avenue and Wabansia, Flores said.

In Wicker Park, Division Street between Damen and Western Avenues is scheduled to be resurfaced by Friday as part of the city's arterial street resurfacing project, according to a sign.

The resurfacing projects on the sidestreets will cost about $1.3 million, said Ald. Scott Waguespack (32nd), who used menu funds under his control to repair the roads, which were among some of the worst in the area.

Concord Place was among area roads stripped by work crews earlier this month. On Concord, a  resurfacing sign said the project would end on Oct. 24.

"My husband and I were placing bets on when they would remember our street is here. It doesn't surprise me; streets are bad everywhere," said Cathy Starr, a resident of the 2100 block of West Concord Place.

The side street resurfacing follows the resurfacing of arterial streets, part of the City's plan to resurface 346 miles of streets.

Earlier this month, Armitage Avenue was resurfaced from Western Avenue to Hermitage Street and Fullerton Avenue was resurfaced just east of Western Avenue.

"The timing is awesome. I am glad it will happen before winter comes.  I take Uber a lot and all the drivers talk about how this part of Division has a lot of potholes," said Andrew Fallon, a clerk at Doggy Style Pet Shop, 2023 W. Division St.

Katherine Loftus, co-owner of Simona Calla at 2124 W. Division St., said that she is hoping Division Street will be resurfaced by Halloween.

"I know there are a lot of projects going on, but it's an inconvenience that customers can't park on the street," Loftus said.

Since Sept. 24, signs along Division Street just west of Damen Avenue have banned parking from 6 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. daily, even though the street was not stripped until mid-October, Loftus said.

"The month-long no parking restrictions have been hard on customers," Loftus said, adding that some people have been parking on the street anyway, if they do not see any construction.
