Man Shot in Neck Drives Rolls Royce to Fire Station; 15 Others Wounded

CHICAGO— At least 15 people, including a 13-year-old boy and an off-duty Cook County Sheriff's officer, were wounded in shootings across the city since Saturday afternoon, police said.

An off-duty Cook County Sheriff's officer was shot in the hand during a possible robbery attempt in Auburn Gresham, police said.

The 13-year-old boy was shot in the leg in Englewood early Saturday evening, police said.

At around 5:30 p.m., the boy was standing outside in the 6700 block of South Sangamon Street. Witnesses observed a man wearing all black walk up and open fire, said Officer Janel Sedevic, a Chicago Police spokeswoman.

The boy was taken to University of Comer Children's Hospital and listed in good condition.

Police believe the victim was not the intended target.

• The most recent shooting occurred about 3:50 p.m. in Little Vilage in the 3200 block of South Kedvale Avenue. A 17-year-old boy was shot in the left arm and chest, police said. The boy was taken in serious condition to Mount Sinai Hospital.

• At about 3 p.m., in the 5400 block of South Talman Avenue, a 19-year-old man was shot in the head. He was taken in serious condition to Mount Sinai Hospital. Police said the man was standing on the street when a black vehicle pulled up and someone inside "exchanged words" with the man. Someone inside the car fired shots, hitting the victim in the head.

• At about 9 a.m. Sunday in the 8600 block of South Lafayette Avenue when a 25-year-old man was shot in the jaw, police said. He was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center, where his condition had stabilized.

• A 31-year-old man was shot in his neck in the 2200 block of West 69th Street about 4:25 a.m. Sunday, and transported to Christ, where he was listed in critical condition.

No one is in custody, and Area Central detectives are investigating.

• In South Chicago, at 3:50 a.m. in the 8900 block of South Carpenter Street, a 21-year-old man was found on the sidewalk with gunshot wounds to his shoulder and leg, Sedevic said.

Police are investigating whether this incident was connected with the shooting of the sheriff's officer on 79th and Paulina.

No further information was available.

• Thirty minutes earlier, at 3:20 a.m. in West Pullman, a 42-year-old man was shot in his chest in the 11900 block of South Eggleston Avenue, said Sedevic.

The man was walking on the sidewalk when he heard shots and felt pain. He was taken to Christ in critical condition, Sedevic said.

Police said the victim is a documented gang member.

No one is in custody, and Area South detectives are investigating.

• At 3:05 a.m. in University Village, a 26-year-old man was walking in the 1300 block of West Washburne Avenue when a vehicle pulled up and someone inside fired shots, Sedevic said.

The man was shot in his leg and taken to Stroger Hospital and listed in good condition.

Police said the victim is gang affiliated.

No one is in custody, and Area Central detectives are investigating.

• At 1:15 a.m., in the Near West Side, a 25-year-old man was standing outside in the 2300 block of West Jackson Boulevard when he heard shots and felt pain, said Sedevic.

The man was shot in his stomach and was taken to Stroger Hospital where he was listed in stable condition.

The police said the victim is gang affiliated.

No one is in custody. 

• In North Kenwood, at around 9:45 p.m. Saturday night, a 16-year-old boy was walking through an alley in the 4300 block of South Berkeley Avenue when he heard shots and felt pain, Sedevic said.

The victim suffered a grazed wound to his leg and taken to Mercy Hospital and Medical Center where he was listed in good condition.

No one is in custody.

• Less than an hour earlier, at 9 p.m. in West Garfield, an 18-year-old man was standing on the corner with his friends in the 4000 block of West End Avenue when the victim heard shots and felt pain, Sedevic said.

The man was shot in his leg and taken to Mount Sinai where he was listed in good condition.

Police said the victim is gang affiliated.

No one is in custody.

• At 7:45 p.m. in Englewood, a 21-year-old man was walking eastbound in the 700 block of West Marquette when he was shot in his leg, Sedevic said.

The man ran to 6600 block of South Union Avenue, and was later taken to Christ, where he was listed in stable condition.

The police said the victim is gang affiliated.

• A 22-year-old was shot at 7 p.m. in South Chicago. The man was in his car in the 2700 block of East 81st Street when was shot in his back, Sedevic said.

The man was initially listed in serious condition at Northwestern Hospital but his condition has since stabilized.

The police said the victim is a documented gang member.

• At 6:45 p.m. in Roseland, a 16-year-old boy was found on the sidewalk in the 0–100 block of East 101st Place with a gunshot wound to his chin, Sedevic said.

The victim was transported to Advocate Christ and listed serious but stable condition.

No one is in custody.
