13 Things to Do in Wicker Park This Weekend

WICKER PARK —  Though the CTA Blue Line Damen "L" station remains closed for renovations, there are plenty of reasons to find your way to Wicker Park — and the weather is predicted to be great this weekend.

Friday

Go Inside the Lives of Three CPS Students.   "Forgotten Future: The Education Project" explores our city's education system through the experiences of student actors from different backgrounds.  Tickets are $15- $30. Performance is at 7:30 p.m. Collaboraction's 3rd floor theater inside the Flat Iron Arts Building, 1579 N. Milwaukee Ave.

Skate Your Heart Out with Your Kids.   Dig your roller skates out of the closet and pop by the park for an indoor Halloween Scary Skate.  Children are encouraged to wear costumes. Tickets are $1. Wicker Park Field House gym, 1425 N. Damen Ave.

Be Part of the Final Push to Eradicate Polio.  The World Polio Day fundraiser concert stars "The Voice" 2013 winner Tessanne Chin and local band Funkadesi. Tickets are $25. Chop Shop's 1st Ward Events, 2033 W. North Ave. 

Walk Through a Spooky Haunted HousePulaski Park's Haunted House is open from 5 to 10 p.m. every Friday and Saturday through next Saturday. Ages 6 and up. Tickets are $4 for children; $10 for adults. 1419 W. Blackhawk St. in Noble Square (near the CTA Division Blue Line "L" station).

Enjoy an Evening of Electro Reggae Jams.  The South Rakkas Crew, a Florida-based DJ considered to be the founder of the Electro-Dancehall music genre, will share the stage with seven other performers including Logan Square's DJ New Life. Tickets are $10-$25. Ages 21 and over, Double Door, 1572 N. Milwaukee Ave.

 

Saturday

Get an Early Start on Trick-or-Treating.  Nearly 50 local shops will be welcoming trick-or-treaters from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.  Check out the Wicker Park Bucktown Chamber of Commerce's map of participating shops here.

Celebrate Halloween in the Park.  The sixth annual Boo-Palooza will include a costume parade and four costume contest divisions (children, adults, families and dogs), a pumpkin patch with pumpkin decorating, a corn maze, apple bobbing, "ghost Bingo," performances, activities and more. Boo-Palooza hours are 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., 1425 N. Damen Ave.

Practice Your Undead Walk.  The 3rd annual Zombies vs. Vampires Pub Crawl is set for 2 to 10 p.m., with stops planned at seven bars along Milwaukee Avenue.  Tickets (age 21 and over) are $25; Crawl kicks off at Halloween Hallway, 1275 N. Milwaukee Ave.

Dress in Halloween Garb at an Avant-Garde Art Show. The BOX Lifestyle Gallery's first Art Bazaar will feature photography, painting, spoken word, theater and live music. Costumes are encouraged; admission is free.  1415 N. Ashland Ave in Wicker Park.

Sunday

Bid Goodbye to the Season's Final Farmers Market.   Now is the time to buy frozen kale burgers from River Valley Ranch, beef jerky from Lando Jerky and those big jars of pickled vegetables, salsas and fruit preserves you've been eyeing from Lou's Old Fashioned.  The Wicker Park Farmers Market's last day of the season is Sunday. Hours are 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the park, 1425 N. Damen Ave.

Shop at the Neighborhood's Newest Pop-up Market.   Prime Market's 9-week-long pop-up kicked off last Sunday and features an array of vendors offering jewelry, crafts, pastries, clothing and more. Hours are 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Free. Chop Shop's 1st Ward Events, 2033 W. North Ave.

Buy, Sell or Trade Your Records. Beat Swap Meet, a traveling record swap, will bring collectors and vinyl lovers together to shop and swap.  Noon to 6 p.m. at Empty Bottle, 1035 N. Western Ave. in Ukrainian Village.

Watch The Simpsons Treehouse of Horror Marathon.  Enjoy "The Simpsons" classic Halloween TV episodes after the Bears game beginning at 6 p.m., Emporium Arcade Bar, 1366 N. Milwaukee Ave.
