MONTROSE HARBOR — The inaugural "A Walk For The Bear" pediatric cancer 5K is set for this weekend along the lakefront.

Organizers hope to raise $75,000 for pediatric cancer research during the walk, which is being held by the Bear Necessities Pediatric Cancer Foundation.

Five hundred people are expected to take place in the walk.

The 5K kicks off at Montrose Harbor and the route will take participants around the harbor.

Kids are encouraged to wear costumes, and Halloween candy will be passed out along the route.

Cancer survivor and trainer Alex Vasileski will lead a warm-up session the morning of the walk and a celebratory ribbon cutting to kick off the walk.

Registration is $20 for adults and $10 for children under 19.

Cancer patients and survivors are free.

Those interested can pre-register online at walkforthebear.mybearnecessities.org/Account/Register or on the day of the event.
