NORTH CENTER — The more you eat, the fewer pets will go hungry.

On Wednesday, the Friendship Pet Food Pantry is hosting a fundraiser at Pockets, 4301 N. Lincoln Ave., from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m., with half the cost of every order being donated to the pantry. The offer (click here for flyer) is valid on dine-in or take away only.

The pet food pantry opened in October 2013, operating once a month out of the Lincoln Square Friendship Center, 2733 W. Lawrence Ave.

Since then, the pantry, which aims to keep owners and their pets together during times of financial difficulty, has fed 503 cats and 286 dogs. An initial donation of 25,000 pounds of pet food, shared with two other pantries, has been all but exhausted.

Pet food distribution, which is open to all Chicagoans, takes place 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. the third Friday of every month at the Lincoln Square Friendship Center.

Donations in the form of food and supplies — cat litter, dog leashes, beds, bowls, etc. — can be dropped off during distribution hours or at the 47th Ward Office, 4243 N. Lincoln Ave.
