WRIGLEYVILLE — A construction crew began demolition on the bleachers at Wrigley Field Thursday as part of the $575 million Wrigley Field renovation project.

The first phase of the project is underway, which includes expanding the bleachers and installing five outfield signs and two video screens. In left field, there will be a 3,900-square-foot video screen, while right field will have a 2,400-square-foot screen.

In August, rooftop owners around Wrigley Field filed a lawsuit, claiming that the signs will obstruct their view.

Cubs representatives and public officials officially broke ground on the project last weekend.

The Cubs and Wrigley Field are 95 percent owned by a trust established for the benefit of the family of Joe Ricketts, owner and CEO of DNAinfo.com. Joe Ricketts has no direct involvement in the management of the iconic team.
