GOLD COAST — Performances of Chicago Children's Theatre's new family friendly musical "Frederick" will come with a bonus for kids and parents — an after-show, drop-in "stay-and-play" acting class that doubles as a half hour of daycare.

Every Saturday through Nov. 15, "Frederick" matinee performances at the Ruth Page Arts Center at 1016 N. Dearborn St. will be followed by a 30-minute "Stay and Play" theater workshop led by professional teaching artists from the Chicago Children's Theatre's skills training studio.

Registration is available in advance, but not required. Classes cost $5 and begin at noon after the 11 a.m. show.

For the opening weekend "Frederick" show at 6 p.m. Saturday, the theater will host a free stay-and-play workshop from 5:15-5:45 p.m.

Chicago Children's Theatre is presenting the world premiere of Leo Lionni's "Frederick," which opened Wednesday. Based on the award-winning children's book about a daydreaming mouse who saves the day, the musical is appropriate for ages 3 and up, according to the children's theater.
