Police Warn of Attempted Kidnappings in Mount Greenwood, Far South Side

CHICAGO — Police are warning Far South Side residents of several reported attempted kidnappings in the last week.

Police described two suspects in a community alert. One suspect is a white man, between 40 and 60 years old, driving a white work van. The second is a Hispanic or black man between 30 and 40 years old, driving a maroon four-door vehicle.

In each of the incidents, a juvenile was approached by a man in a vehicle. After speaking with the juvenile, the suspect attempted to lure the minor into the vehicle, police said. In one of the incidents, the suspect in the maroon vehicle used a small dog in attempting to lure the child.

According to the alert distributed by the Chicago Police Department, the three incidents occurred over the span of three days between Oct. 4 and 6.

The most recent incident occurred on Oct. 6 at approximately 2:30 p.m. in the 11300 block of South Washtenaw Avenue in Kennedy Park, when a 15-year-old girl was approached by a suspect.

On Oct. 5, at about 2:10 p.m. in the 3500 block of East 108th Street in East Side, a 10-year-old girl was approached by one of the suspects.

The first of the three incidents occurred when a 10-year-old boy was approached on Oct. 4 at approximately 3 p.m., on the 11300 block of S. Drake Avenue in Mount Greenwood.

Police are urging residents to call 911 to report any suspicious persons, cars or activity in the area.
