MARQUETTE PARK — After its grand opening was canceled due to construction delays in August, Ombudsman Chicago has scheduled another ribbon cutting and open house for its third alternative CPS high school in the city.

The ceremony runs from 10-11 a.m. Thursday at the new campus at 6057 S. Western Ave. followed by an open house from 5:30-7 p.m.

Ald. JoAnn Thompson (16th), whose ward includes the school, and WGCI-FM personality UB Rodriguez will serve as guest speakers.

An Aug. 28 ceremony was postponed when heavy rains slowed construction of the campus. The new school opened Sept. 17, admission is still open as the school has 189 students but has a capacity for 300.

The other two school locations for Ombudsman Chicago are 7500 N. Harlem Ave. and 2401 W. Congress Pkwy.

Ombudsman Chicago is part of the Chicago Public Schools' Office of Education Options, so tuition is free and the school could accommodate up to 300 students, Ombudsman Chicago officials said.

The alternative high school will focus on kids who have dropped out or are significantly behind. Students must be between the ages of 14 and 21 and completed eighth grade, officials said.
