LAKEVIEW — The Center on Halsted is launching a free LGBT film series this weekend with a screening of "The Times of Harvey Milk."
The 1984 documentary follows the life and death of Harvey Milk, who made history as America's first openly gay elected official. The film mixes archival footage and interviews to illustrate Milk's life and concurrent political events.
"The Times of Harvey Milk" won an Academy Award for best documentary. It's showing at the Center on Halsted, 3656 N. Halsted St., at 1 p.m. Sunday.
The three-part film series is hosted by Center on Halsted and Lincoln Park Village. "Torch Song Trilogy" and "The Kids are Alright" will be shown in November and December, respectively.
