ROSCOE VILLAGE — You gotta spend money to make money for schools during Thursday's Shop for Schools event on Roscoe Street.

Nearly 20 stores are participating in the annual fundraiser, donating 20 percent of each purchase to the school of the buyer's choice.

The Roscoe Village Chamber of Commerce has pledged to match funds for the top five schools, with the donation ranging from $3,000 to $250.

Among the schools benefiting from the event, which runs 10 a.m.-8 p.m.: Agassiz, Alphonsus Academy, Amundsen, Audubon, Bell, Burley, Coonley, Hamilton, Hawthorne, Jahn, Lane Tech, Lincoln Park, St. Andrew, St. Benedict, St. Clement, St. Josaphat and St. Luke.

Participating shops: A Pied, Baby Take a Bow, Casa Couture Furniture, Cinnamon Boutique, City Olive, Crush, The Denim Lounge, Fixture, Glam to Go, Kickin', Hubba-Hubba, Little Threads, Meringue, M2Boutique, Roscoe Village Bikes, Tye's Toy Store and Village Paperie & Gifts.
