PORTAGE PARK — The Six Corners Business Association is looking for new members — and hoping that a more convenient meeting time will boost attendance at its meetings.

The association, which acts as a chamber of commerce for the businesses near Irving Park Road and Cicero and Milwaukee avenues, will meet from 6:30-8 p.m. on the first and third Tuesdays of the month in the association's third-floor offices at 4041 N. Milwaukee Ave.

“Part of Six Corners' resurgence, which will see more than 20 businesses open at Six Corners this year, has been due to community support,” Six Corners Association President Levi Moore said. “The partnership of local residents and local businesses will make Six Corners a prime destination on the Northwest Side.”

The association had met at 1 p.m. Tuesdays before the change, making it impossible for most Portage Park residents to attend.

On the first Tuesday of the month, the meeting will focus on beautification issues and economic redevelopment. On the third Tuesday, members will discuss promotions and organizing issues.

The association is in charge of landscaping, snow plowing, banners and holiday decorations as well as recruiting businesses and helping existing shops and stores. The association hosts several festivals and special events and is charged with marketing the district to other parts of the city and suburbs.

The association and Ald. John Arena (45th) have been working to turn Six Corners — once the premier shopping district outside the Loop — into an arts and culture mecca in an effort to reverse decades of decline and to fill empty storefronts.
