Five Wounded in Shootings Tuesday Night Across the City

CHICAGO — Five people were wounded in shootings overnight including a 23-year-old man in Logan Square Tuesday evening.

The most recent shooting occurred around 9 p.m. in the 800 block of North Massasoit Avenue in South Austin, when a 21-year-old man was shot while driving westbound, said Officer Janel Sedevic, a Chicago police spokeswoman.

He was hit in his left thigh and drove himself to West Suburban Hospital, where his condition stabilized, Sedevic said.

The man is a documented gang member and no one is in custody for the shooting, Sedevic said.

Three people were also shot in separate incidents in East Garfield Park Tuesday night. Around 8:35 p.m., a 17-year-old man was shot when a man emerged from a vacant lot in the 500 block of North Sawyer Avenue and opened fire. The teen was struck in his foot and taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he was listed in good condition, Sedevic said.

Two people were shot in the 3500 block of West Huron Street by someone on riding a bike around 7:10 p.m. A 26-year-old man was struck in his arm and was listed in good condition at Mount Sinai. A 19-year-old man was struck in his stomach and was listed in critical condition at Mount Sinai, Sedevic said.

No one is in custody for either shooting.

Also Tuesday, a shooting in South Shore left a 16-year-old dead.
