WICKER PARK — CTA riders can meet the artistic team that will put its mark on the Damen "L" stop at a public meeting Wednesday.

Gaston Nogues of Ball-Nogues Studio, who was selected to create the new artwork for the station, will be at the meeting from 6-7 p.m. at the The Silver Room, 1442 N. Milwaukee Ave.

The meeting is being held to get community ideas for the art being commissioned for the Damen station as part of the "Your New Blue Line" renovation and rebuilding project.

The station, which opened in 1895, will in October start to get an upgrade that will include wider gates, and more turnstiles and bike racks. Its historic features will be preserved and restored, officials said. There will be more passenger room, with the removal of a concession area.

The Damen stop will be closed between Oct. 20 and Dec. 22 for the work, which also includes improvements to the stationhouse exterior, interior and platforms. There will be structural repairs, painting, new platforms and better lights and signs.

The CTA confirmed last week that the renovations will not include an elevator.
