Summer is over, so it's a great time to eat your feelings about it and store up some fat for winter. You should, however, get off the couch. Save that for February. Here are some places you should check out this weekend.

• After a summer of anticipation, a retro diner from the makers of Big Star opened Monday. Dove's Luncheonette, 1545 N. Damen Ave., will tackle its first weekend brunch crowds this weekend — and its menu is perfect for it.

There's Mexican-themed soul food, an option for an egg on everything, Dark Matter coffee and dreamy brunch cocktails including the Uptown Shakedown and a Bloody Mary made with smoked black pepper.

View the entire food and drink menu here, as well as more about the diner's inspirations, which include the long-closed but much-revered staple diners Busy Bee and Leo's Lunchroom.

• From the bakers who brought us Bang Bang Pie Shop, Lincoln Square's Baker Miller has been selling its pastries and breads like hotcakes since opening Monday.

In its first few days, the bakery has had to cut back hours because demand has been so high.

Pies, cookies, loaves of bread, popovers and more will all be available this weekend. Just make sure to get there early if you want a taste.

• After 15 years, Goose Island Wrigleyville is closing for good on Monday. The brewpub is going out by offering $3 pints and $12 growlers until the end.

Its owners say the closing is happening because of developments and changes in the neighborhood. The Clybourn location remains open.

Goose Island Wrigleyville, 3535 N. Clark St.

• While Goose Island closes in Wrigleyville, DryHop Brewers in Lakeview has some beer news that involves 32-oz. cans.

Starting this week, the microbrewery began allowing beer drinkers to take home their brews in 32-oz. "crowlers," cans that are filled and sealed right at the bar.

The beer in the crowlers last up to four weeks.

• Head to the Green City Market and catch the Honey Butter Fried Chicken duo lead a chef demonstration.

The market opens at 7 a.m. and lasts until 1 p.m. The main demo is set for 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.

• Oyster fans have another incentive to get over to Galway Arms' annual oyster fest this weekend: Three Floyds Brewing Co. will be taking over the taps.

The yearly oyster festival is set for Saturday to coincide with the 60th annual Galway International Oyster and Seafood Festival happening this weekend across the pond in Ireland.

The Three Floyds beers on tap include Arctic Panzer Wolf, Gumballhead, Man-O-Awe, Moloko and Zombie Dust.

There's also a Connemara Chowder - clams, crab, lobster, shrimp and salmon mixed in a cream sauce with thick cut potatoes.
