Man, 34, Dead After Being Shot in Greater Grand Crossing Early Sunday

CHICAGO — A man died after being shot in Greater Grand Crossing early Sunday. 

The shooting happened around 2:40 a.m. in the 7700 block of South Stewart Avenue, according to Officer Jose Estrada, a Chicago Police spokesman. 

The man, 34, was in the passenger seat of a car going southbound when someone fired shots, striking him in his head, Estrada said.

Initially, the man was taken to St. Bernard Hospital in critical condition. He was later taken to Stroger Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, according to police. 

The man, who has been identified as Richard Johnson, of the 600 block of East 133rd Street in Riverdale, was pronounced dead at 9:09 p.m. Sunday, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office. 

No one is in custody, and detectives are investigating.
