HYDE PARK — German minimalist composer and organist Eva-Maria Houben will make her North American debut at a free Monday performance at Rockefeller Chapel.

Houben will premiere her new composition “Drones” on the 8,565-pipe E.M. Skinner organ in the chapel on the University of Chicago campus at 5850 S. Woodlawn Ave.

The German musician will perform at 8 p.m. as part of a festival of the works by composers in the Wandelweiser Group.

Her work is part of a broader shift in minimalism that prioritizes silence over repetition, and she is particularly interested in experiments with the decay of a single note.

Houben will perform three pieces, ending with an improvisation.

The event sponsored by the Renaissance Society is part of the Chicago Wandelweiser Festival.
