LINCOLN PARK — It came down to the wire, but fans of Indian cooking and, most importantly, Anupy Singla, have spoken with their wallets.

Singla's Kickstarter campaign to raise $30,000 reached its goal Monday night, meaning, if all goes according to plan, the first episode of her "Indian As Apple Pie" cooking show could air next fall.

"There's no way I thought I would make it," said Singla, a Lincoln Park mother of two. "It seemed so far off."

Anupy Singla says there were many doubters, including herself along the way:

The campaign was more than $4,000 short as of Saturday, and two donors who Singla had never met before each gave $1,000, helping a last-minute push.

"The Indian community — I call them the Indian moms — they came together and started putting the word out," Singla said.

Reaching the goal means Singla can start planning for an initial trip to India with her production crew to shoot a pilot episode of her show.

Singla, who is an accomplished journalist and author of two best-selling Indian cookbooks, has plans to create a show that takes viewers to the heart of Indian cooking to learn of the roots of the cuisine and later how to make traditional Indian dishes.

She has already met with her production team to begin planning for the first episode and intends to travel to India with the team in March.

The team behind the project is the same that produces Rick Bayless' "Mexico — One Plate At A Time" on PBS. Where the show would air has not been determined.

"I think that people really love the idea for the show and saw the quality of our work," Singla said.
