ENGLEWOOD — St. Bernard Hospital and Healthcare Center will give away gift baskets to the first 100 mothers who show up at their upcoming community fair.

The free, outdoor event runs from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday in the parking lot of the hospital, 324 W. 64th St. Free children's physical examinations and vaccinations, as well as adult health screenings and flu shots, will be provided by the Pediatric Mobile Health Unit.

The last time the hospital had a community fair was in 2012. Derek Michaels, a spokesman for the hospital, said the hospital hopes to make the fair a yearly affair.

"Englewood has a high number of children who are not in compliance with their state-mandated vaccinations and physicals which puts them at risk," Michaels said. "This year we wanted to include adult education and screenings for diabetes and prostate cancer which are more prevalent among African Americans. St. Bernard hopes to make this an annual event."

There will also be free food, school supplies, face paintings and games, such as Bingo, for seniors.

Mothers must have delivered a baby at the hospital within the last year to be eligible for a gift basket, according to Michaels. In 2013, the hospital saw 1,006 births, he said.
