LAKEVIEW — Alan Cumming will make an appearance in Lakeview next month to talk about his latest book, a memoir that explores his abusive childhood and family secrets.

In "Not My Father's Son," the Scottish-born actor talks about his childhood with a volatile dad. He also recounts his experiences on "Who Do You Think You Are?," a British TV show that focuses on celebrity genealogies. Cumming learned family secrets about his father and grandfather on the program.

The book is being billed as witty and moving.

Cumming will join former Chicago magazine editor Dick Babcock for a conversation at the Music Box Theatre, 3733 N. Southport Ave., at 7 p.m. Oct. 13.

There are a limited number of tickets, which are on sale online. Prices range from $30 to $45 and include a copy of "Not My Father's Son."

Unabridged Bookstore is hosting the event.
