UPTOWN — If you've had your eye out for that "Pretty in Pink" soundtrack or have been looking to buy an original Discman, you might want to visit this month's Vintage Garage Chicago flea market, where vendors are celebrating the 1980s in all its neon, shoulder-padded glory.

The monthly market, the second before the last Vintage Garage event scheduled this year, kicks off from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Sept. 21 inside a parking structure at 5051 N. Broadway, near the Argyle Red Line stop.

While merchandise from across the '80s, including records, clothing jewelry, furniture, decor and art, will be featured, the market's theme has a special focus on the year 1984.

The year 1984 was a leap year that included both the Winter and Summer Olympics, a World's Fair, and the births of the first Macintosh personal computers, Discmans and Birkin bags.

Not to mention Slice orange pop and the first "Ghostbusters" movie.

The year "was a treasure culturally, with movies, music and products," Vintage Garage founder Melissa Sands said. "The Van Halen album of that name was the soundtrack of a generation, and where would we be today without 'Ghostbusters?'"

Dealers looking to sell their own retro-born merchandise can still sign up for a spot at the event, which organizers said will also include vintage items from eras other than the '80s. Admission costs $5.
