BACK OF THE YARDS — Police have issued a community alert after two robberies in the neighborhood.

The first incident took place about 6:50 p.m. Aug. 27 in the 4900 block of South Damen Avenue when two teens approached a 14-year-old holding a cell phone, police said. The pair tried to grab the phone, but the teen took off running, police said.

A second incident was reported about 45 minutes later in the 4800 block of South Damen Avenue when the pair approached a 16-year-old and asked him to show them his phone in order to tell the time.

When the teen refused to hand his phone over, one of the robbers said he had a weapon. The teen then handed over his phone, valued at $225, and the thieves ran off, police said.

Authorities describe the bandits as two black teenagers, about 15 to 18 years old, roughly 5 feet 6 inches to 5 feet 10 inches tall and between 130-160 pounds.

Police are asking anyone with information to contact detectives at 312-747-8382.
