CHICAGO — Police have charged three men, including a high-ranking member of the Latin Kings, in connection to a string of Little Village burglaries.

Richard A. Nunez, 51, of the 3300 block of W. Commercial Ave.; Michael M. Martinez, 44, of the 2000 block of W. 18th St.; and Courtney D. Fields, 30, of the 6900 block of S. Wolcott Ave., were charged with a series of commercial, garage and home burglaries in Little Village.

Nunez was charged with one count of felony burglary and one count of unlawful use of a weapon by a felon, while the others were each charged with one count of felony burglary.

Beginning in May 2013, police found a beige-colored GMC van at the scene of each of the burglaries. That, among other evidence, led them to believe one group was behind the crimes, according to a police statement.

First, police used surveillance to catch Nunez and two others breaking into a building in the 2100 block of North California Avenue and recovered $12,000 and an assortment of electronics, according to the statement.

Since then, police have recovered more items, such as power tools, computers and electronics from various storage units, all worth around $10,000, according to the statement.

The investigation is open and ongoing.

Police are encouraging victims of burglaries or thefts to go to the police station in Little Village at 3315 W. Ogden Ave. from noon-5 p.m. on Sept. 20 or 21 or call detectives at 312-747-7013 to find out if their property was recovered.
