CHICAGO — A Grand Crossing man died after he was shot Wednesday morning in the city's Burnside neighborhood.

About 10:35 a.m., a 21-year-old man was driving a car in the 9300 block of South Greenwood Avenue when a gray Chevy sedan pulled alongside his car, said Officer Jose Estrada, a police spokesman.

Someone inside the Chevy sedan opened fire, and the 21-year-old man was shot repeatedly in his chest, Estrada said. The 21-year-old man drove off but crashed his car in the 9100 block of South Greenwood Avenue.

The man was transported in critical condition to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where he was pronounced dead, police said.

The man was identified as Michael Wright, of the 7300 block of South University Avenue, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's office.

Police did not immediately have details on the circumstances leading to the shooting. No one is in custody in connection with the murder as of Wednesday morning.
