CHICAGO — Four University of Chicago students were robbed just blocks apart in three separate incidents Sunday evening, university officials said.

The three robberies happened within an hour of each other and suggest "a possible pattern," officials stated via email.

About 6 p.m. Sunday, a student was walking near East 54th Street and South Ellis Avenue when two males approached him, one of whom "implied he had a handgun," officials said. The two males took property from the student and fled westbound on 54th Street, police said.

About 6:45 p.m. on the same block of East 54th Street, two students were walking and were approached by two males, one of whom implied he had a gun. The males took property and fled, officials said.

About five minutes later, two males approached another student walking in the 5400 block of South University Avenue just a couple blocks away, officials said. The males demanded the student's cellphone but fled when someone approached, authorities said.

None of the students was hurt during the robberies, and in two of the robberies, the students described one of the men as having a tattoo on his face.

Police had announced no arrests as of Monday afternoon.

University officials urged students to be alert and walk in groups for safety.

They advised against using electronics while on the street and resisting an armed robbery "unless absolutely necessary."
