CHICAGO — A woman was critically wounded when she and a companion were shot Sunday evening in Rogers Park, police said.
The man and woman were walking in the 1300 block of West Morse Avenue about 5:15 p.m. when they heard gunfire and realized they'd been shot, said Officer Beri Lemmon, a police spokeswoman.
The woman, 29, was shot in the chest and was in critical condition. The man, 28, suffered a graze wound to the head and was in "stable" condition, Lemmon said.
Both were taken to St. Francis Hospital in Evanston.
Ald. Joe Moore (49th) said Monday that one of the victims has already been released from the hospital and the other would be released this evening.
He said they were both hit by the same bullet, which was fired about two or three hundred yards from them.
Area North detectives are investgating. Authorities said the shooting was gang related, but the victims were not the intended targets.
No more information was available.
In July, photographer Wil Lewis was gunned down in the 1300 block of West Devon Avenue, also the unintended target in a gang-related shooting. Three people, including two teens, 15 and 17, have been charged in Lewis' murder.
