MCKINLEY PARK — The neighborhood's first and only farmers market of the season takes place Saturday.

The event takes place 10 a.m.-3 p.m. at the McKinley Park field house, 2210 W. Pershing Road.

The farmers market, organized by the McKinley Park advisory council, is a trial run for a possible regularly scheduled weekly event that could start next spring.

"We hope the residents of McKinley Park are as excited about the possibility of bringing an ongoing Farmers Market to our park as we are," said Sierra Hinson, president of the civic association, in an email.

Saturday's event is part of a back-to-school health fair organized by the city's health department and the office of Ald. George Cardenas (12th). It will include vendors of organic produce, organizers said.

The health fair includes free health screenings health screenings, eye exams, dental exams and vaccinations for school-aged kids.

Hinson is urging residents to get involved with planning more park activities by attending one of the civic association's monthly meetings, held at 7 p.m. on the second Tuesday of every month at the field house.
