CHICAGO — A 14-year-old boy was fatally shot in Austin Sunday afternoon.

The boy was standing in the 1100 block of North LeClaire Avenue when two men approached him at 2:52 p.m. One of them was carrying a gun and opened fire, striking the boy in the back.

He was taken to Stroger Hospital in critical condition, said Officer Janel Sedevic, a Chicago police spokeswoman.

Marcus McCarthy, who lived on the block where he was shot, was pronounced dead at 3:56 p.m., according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office.

No one is in custody for the shooting, Sedevic said.
