MAGNIFICENT MILE — Storefronts along North Michigan Avenue will turn inside out this weekend for the Magnificent Mile Shopping Festival Friday through Sunday.

The two-day "ShopFest" running from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and Sunday — one of several components of the weekend-long business association event — marks the first time Mag Mile stores have organized "pop-up" shops en masse on the heavily trafficked Downtown thoroughfare.

“The Magnificent Mile Shopping Festival is a one-of-a-kind celebration for shoppers and retailers alike," said Mary Ann Rose, chairwoman of the Magnificent Mile Association. "This is the first year we will be introducing ‘pop-up’ shops and experiences all along North Michigan Avenue ... [visitors can] discover new fall fashions on display while enjoying unique and interactive experiences."

Participating retailers include the American Girl Place, H2O+, Gap and Macy's. Tenants of 900 North Michigan Shops will lend looks to an outdoor fashion show both days against a backdrop of a new art installation connected with the Art Institute's "unthink" Magritte campaign.

Samples, giveaways and coupons for ShopFest sales will be plentiful, according to the Magnificent Mile Association.

Other Shopping Festival events include "A Magnificent Taste" Friday, a three-hour ticketed tasting in Pioneer Court where guests can sample food and cocktails from 15 restaurants like Allium, Bub City and Travelle.

At 1 p.m. Saturday, musician Andy Grammer will give a free concert at the John Hancock Center plaza. On Sunday, Fleet Feet will host The Magnificent Mile Women's Half Marathon and 5K.
