PULLMAN — U.S. Bank is hosting a backpack giveaway for children living in a low-income housing building on the Far South Side for the fourth straight year.

The free event runs from 4:30-6:30 p.m. Wednesday in the back parking lot at the Pullman Wheelworks, 901 E. 104th St. The 210-unit affordable-housing development that sits behind Butler College Prep and across the street from the A. Philip Randolph Pullman Porter Museum. School supplies will also be given away at the event.

Employees from U.S. Bank and the nonprofit Mercy Housing Lakefront, which manages the Wheelworks, will be among the volunteers at the event, said Marsha Cruzan, market president for U.S. Bank in Chicago.

“This special event is one way we show our commitment to the Chicago community. U.S. Bank is honored to have a long and supportive relationship with Mercy Housing," Cruzan said. "Through this partnership U.S. Bank has helped Mercy Housing create and preserve housing for lower income families by providing grants, sponsorships, employees as board members and financing for its operations and housing development projects in Chicago."
