WICKER PARK — An Indian restaurant owned by a former Bollywood actor and his wife that will serve traditional curry dishes using family recipes is looking for workers to staff the eatery, which could open by late September.

Rahul Bajaj, owner of Columbus' Curry at 1359 N. Milwaukee Ave. in Wicker Park, said he and his wife, Michele, are "in the final stretch" of opening their restaurant and are seeking to fill positions in the kitchen as well as the front of the house.

When asked what kind of qualities he's looking for in potential new hires, Bajaj said he is "open to anyone who has a good attitude and is looking to work hard and learn."

Featuring a sign with bright orange lettering and a logo with an explorer looking through a telescope, the restaurant's inspiration was Christopher Columbus, who in 1492 was looking for a new route to get to India but found America instead.

"Everyone knows Columbus discovered America, but the reason he did it was to find a new route to India where he could find valuable spices. There is a very deep connection to India and America," Bajaj said.

Originally from New Delhi, Bajaj said he and his wife, who is American, plan to cook "very authentic Indian food" using family recipes at their first restaurant venture.

Bajaj said he is still tweaking the menu but the restaurant will offer several vegan and vegetarian dishes as well as chicken curries, desserts and India Pale Ale beers and wines.

Columbus' Curry, 1359 N. Milwaukee Ave. Hours will be 11:30 a.m.-10:30 p.m. daily.
