NORWOOD PARK — The Northwest Side's newest summer festival promises food, beer, music, amusement park rides — and a chance to party like the T-Birds and Pink Ladies Aug. 21-24.
The Grease Lightning Carnival — hosted by the Norwood Park Chamber of Commerce for the first time this year — will raise money for the Taft High School Foundation, which funds academic enrichment, arts and athletic programs at the Northwest Side school.
Taft, which is celebrating its 75th anniversary, is perhaps best-known as the school that inspired the movie "Grease," which chronicled the adventures of the Pink Ladies and T-Birds.
The Usual Suspects will headline the festival Aug. 22, while classic rock and country band Bootleggers will headline the festival on Aug. 23, closing out eight hours of live music at Norwood Park, 5801 N. Natoma Ave. A disc jockey will play — and offer the brave a chance to karaoke — Aug. 21 and and Aug. 24.
A classic car show will take place from 1-5 p.m. Aug. 23 and Aug. 24.
Thrill seekers can buy an unlimited pass for the carnival rides for $65 online by Aug. 20 or for $75 at the carnival.
The fest will take place from 5-10 p.m. Aug. 21, 5-11 p.m. Aug. 22, 1-11 p.m. Aug. 23 and 1-7 p.m. Aug. 24.
