CHICAGO — Two suburban men were charged with trying to drive over a off-duty detective who tried to thwart their theft from a Northwest Side Jewel.
Jonathan Koziol, 30, of Schiller Park, and Robert Hack, 29, of Des Plaines, are due in court Friday following the incident that occurred at 7:05 p.m. Wednesday at the Harlem-Foster Shopping Center in Norwood Park, police said.
The detective was shopping at the Jewel store at 7342 W. Foster Ave. when employees pointed out two men loading stolen merchandise into their car in the parking lot, according to a statement from the Chicago Police Department.
After the detective approached the men and told them she was a police officer, they drove their car at her allegedly "using a vehicle as a weapon."
In response, the detective pulled out her gun and open fire "in fear for her life," police said. No one was hit and the men were arrested a short time later, police said.
The detective was not injured in the incident, police said.
Koziol and Hack were both charged with two felonies: aggravated assault to a peace officer and retail theft while having a previous conviction.
