WEST ROGERS PARK — The 13-year-old members of the Warren Park Warriors Little League team were honored by the City Council Wednesday after beating Naperville to win the state championship this summer.

The Warriors moved on to the regional championship tournament this month but fell to Indiana and Ohio last week in Kalamazoo, Mich., said Warriors founder and coach Joe Perona.

"That was exciting for all of us," Perona said of the City Hall honor, which was led by Ald. Harry Osterman (48th) and Debra Silverstein (50th). "It’s been a great exciting month for tournament play and an excellent season."

The Warriors went 34-22 during the regular season. If the team had won last week, it would have traveled to California for the World Series. Instead, Ohio moved on.

But the loss didn't squash the Warriors' dream season, said Perona, whose son, Louis, plays on the team.

"They still were joking around with each other," he said. "What the kids remember is staying at the hotel in Michigan with their teammates, and today; a lot of what they talk about is taking the train to City Hall and walking around downtown."

Warrior roster (Coaches Joe Perona, Joe Mack and Robert Martinez):

• Isaac Shihadeh
• Theo Iska
• Matt Wong
• Tristen Edwards
• Louis Perona
• Brandon Martinez
• Ben Sides
• Jalen Kobayashi
• Eli Windy
• Zane Zielinski
• Katie Gallegos
• Elijah Davila
• Jojo Mack

The Warren Park Warriors will compete in the 14-year-olds Little League category next year.
