CHICAGO — A convicted rapist was sentenced to 55 years behind bars for the 2010 sexual assault of a 21-year-old woman behind an abandoned building in Englewood, prosecutors said.

Derrick Alexander, 33, sneaked up behind the woman on May 16, 2010 near the intersection of 61st Street and Winchester Boulevard, prosecutors said. He pushed the woman, pressed an object she believed to be a gun to her back and ordered her to the rear of an abandoned building.

He ordered her not to scream, and he raped her, prosecutors said.

Tied to the attack by DNA and the victim's identification, Alexander was previously found guilty of sexual assault and sentenced Wednesday to 55 years in prison by Cook County Judge Steve Goebel.
