AVONDALE — Avondale’s newest bar has been officially named and will host a grand opening this weekend, as promised when the bar opened in May.

The family of owners at Reed’s Local, formerly Wally’s Lounge, 3017 W. Belmont Ave., said they wanted the bar to become “a central hub for neighbors that goes beyond just socializing and enjoying some beers.”

But the Logan Square residents also want you to socialize and enjoy some beers — Saturday’s grand opening in the newly revamped bar will include several local bands, DJs and a list of drink specials followed by a free barbecue on Sunday.

Renovations at the longstanding bar, renamed after the father of co-owners Joel and Trevor Hill, include an entirely redone back room, increased seating with high-top tables, restored beer taps, vintage video games — Arkanoid, Marvel Superheroes and Playboy pinball — and a CD jukebox.

The theme of the bar is “local,” according to the Hill brothers and their third co-owner Melissa Hill, Joel’s wife — local beers, local patrons and local business partnerships.

Reed’s Local came about after Joel saw the need for a local neighborhood bar in Avondale, he said, after he and his wife had become regulars at the former Wally’s Lounge. When Wally’s was about to close, the family decided to take a passing joke of owning the bar seriously, with the goal of attracting a new clientele to the neighborhood staple and as an homage to their father, Reed, who died in 2012.

Reed’s local will host its grand opening Saturday and Sunday at 3017 W. Belmont Ave. Regular hours are 4 p.m.-2 a.m. Mondays to Thursdays, 3 p.m.-2 a.m. Fridays, noon-2 a.m. Saturdays and 2 p.m.-2 a.m. Sundays, subject to change seasonally.
