COOK COUNTY CRIMINAL COURTHOUSE — A man attempting to rob a woman of her cellphone chased her around a Red Line train car after she refused to hand it over, prosecutors said.

A 28-year-old woman was riding the Red Line near the Clybourn Street Station at 6 p.m. July 13 when another rider told her, "Give me your cellphone, and I'll let you go," prosecutors alleged.

The woman tried to get away from the would-be robber, running to the other side of the train, prosecutors said. The man caused a disturbance as he chased after her, at one point causing the woman to hit her head on one of the poles inside the train car.

She exited the train and escaped, according to a police report.

Bradley Rotterman, 44, of the 1600 block of West Pratt Boulevard, was arrested on Monday in the 6900 block of North Clark Street and charged with attempted robbery, according to court records. Court records do not indicate how Rotterman was identified.

While a police report notes that Rotterman currently lives in Rogers Park, he is a resident of South Dakota.

A Cook County judge ordered Rotterman held on $75,000 bail Tuesday during a brief court hearing.
