CHICAGO — Chicago police say they shot a man Saturday in Little Village after the man pointed a gun at officers.

Police say they were responding to a report of a man with a gun in the 2600 block of South Hamlin Avenue around 6:15 a.m. when they saw an armed man near the corner of 27th Street and Avers Avenue.

The man pointed the gun at police and an officer shot the man, police said in a statement, saying authorities were "in fear [for] their lives." A weapon was recovered.

The suspect, who wasn't identified, was brought to an area hospital for treatment. His condition was not immediately known.

No officers were injured, police said, and the incident is under investigation.
