JEFFERSON PARK — The renovation of the playground at Thuis Playlot is almost complete, and Jefferson Park officials are looking for volunteers to help put the finishing touches on the new playlot.

Thuis Playlot, 4759 N. Lavergne Ave., won all new equipment through the Chicago Park District's Chicago Plays! Playground Renovation program.

Volunteers are needed from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Monday to help spread the wood-based soft Fibar surface on the new playground. The playground was last renovated in 1990.

Thuis Playlot, which is also in Jefferson Park, honors Grace Zwiefka Thuis, who was a 60-year employee of the park district. The park, which is just one-third of an acre along Lawrence Avenue, features a play structure and a sandbox.

Volunteers should bring a pair of work gloves and wear sneakers or boots, Friends of the Parks advised.

Chicago Plays!, which is a program administered by Friends of the Parks, plans to renovate 300 playgrounds throughout the city over the next five years.
