AUBURN GRESHAM —Instead of its weekly peace walk, St. Sabina Church officials will host a block party with the goal of kicking off the weekend on a positive note.

The free block party runs from 6-9 p.m. Friday at Renaissance Park, 1230 W. 79th St., and will include food, music and games — such as a bean bag toss, basketball, flag football and a sack race. A voter registration table will also be set up for residents to register for the November election.

"Shootings often occur on weekends during the summer and we  want to help bring about peace to the community. Having a block party is one way we go about doing this," said Rev. Michael Pfleger, the pastor of St. Sabina Church.

This is the second of three parties the church has planned for the summer. The next one is Aug. 15.
