HUMBOLDT PARK — A pop-up poetry event in the WOW District will kick off Thursday at the historic mural garden.

The poetry open mic will take place in front of “La Crucifixtion de Don Pedro,” Humboldt Park’s oldest mural, which was restored in 2010 after a decade of preservation attempts. The pop-up lineup gathering will meet Thursday from 7-9 p.m.

All are welcome to attend as a performer, spectator or both at the event, sponsored by Cup & Spoon, Division Street Business Development Association and the Puerto Rican Cultural Center.

“The WOW District is working toward building not only a cohesive business community, but also striving to build a strong and cohesive neighborhood community,” said Lynne McDaniel, of An Orange Moon. “We want the neighbors to come out and enjoy a lovely summer evening in the garden.

Cup & Spoon will be open until 8 p.m. and will provide free iced tea and coffee. There will also be a special Bomba performance by BUYA.
