ENGLEWOOD — Officials with I Grow Chicago said they are sponsoring a wine-tasting to introduce new cultural experiences to residents and to change the way people think about the South Side neighborhood.
"Englewood gets so much negative press that people think it is one of the worst places to live, and that's not true," said Tameka Lawson, executive director of the nonprofit. "When people think of wine-tastings, they don't think about Englewood. They think about a wine-tasting in Hyde Park, Beverly or the North Side."
The free wine-tasting runs from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Monday at Kusanya Cafe, 825 W. 69th St.
Red and white wines will be available, along with cheese and crackers. After the tasting, a "light meal" will be provided by Chipotle, Lawson said.
Artwork by 79-year-old Auburn Gresham resident Eddie Harris will be on display at the event.
"Artwork from Mr. Harris will line the walls on that day, and he will talk about what inspired him to draw these pieces," Lawson said. "He will not only talk about his artwork, but also his experiences with the Black Panthers."
