CHICAGO — Two men were shot while playing basketball in Gage Park Monday evening, police said.

The incident occurred in the 3500 block of West 57th Street at 6:39 p.m., said Officer Stacey Cooper, a police spokeswoman.

A 26-year-old man was shot in his left forearm and was listed in good condition at St. Bernard Hospital. A 23-year-old man was grazed in his right thigh and treated on the scene.

In a separate shooting in West Englewood, a woman in her 20s was shot while she was in the 6900 block of South Hamilton Avenue, Cooper said.

After being shot in her back at 7:05 p.m., she was taken to Stroger Hospital in serious condition, where she was later pronounced dead, police said.

The woman, whose name is being withheld pending notification of her family, was pronounced dead at 8:11 p.m. She was 19-years-old, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner.

The shootings follow a bloody Fourth of July weekend in which more than 80 people were shot and 13 people were murdered.
