WOODLAWN —Residents seeking advice on legal matters such as child support, divorce, evictions or even expungement of criminal records could find answers to their questions at the Woodlawn Legal Clinic.

The free clinic, which opened in 2010, will be open from 4-7 p.m. July 9 at the AKArama Community Center, 6220 S. Ingleside Ave.

It is also open on the second Wednesday of every month at the same time and location.

Anne Helms, pro bono counsel in the Chicago office of DLA Piper and a volunteer attorney for the clinic, said while walk-ins are accepted, appointments are encouraged. They can be made by calling 312-341-1070 from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. on weekdays.

Services are based on ability to pay, although "we rarely turn anyone away for income," Helms said.

For those needing to have their criminal records expunged, Helms said residents would need to bring a copy of their criminal record, which they could obtain for $16 between 8 a.m.-noon on weekdays at Chicago Police headquarters, 3510 S. Michigan Ave.
