CHICAGO — The CTA has completed a $25 million project rehabbing the Orange Line track that curves near 18th Street.

Over four separate weekends since the spring, Orange Line service has been interrupted to allow for both structural and cosmetic repairs, said Catherine Hosinski, a CTA spokeswoman.

The agency planned to do additional work over another weekend this year, but finished ahead of schedule.

"Customers now have a smoother and more reliable trip in and out of the Loop along the Orange Line, while the surrounding community no longer has a leaking eyesore," she said via email.

Work included replacing worn rail ties, as well as painting and waterproofing the structure to keep water from leaking. The leaking was particularly a problem in freezing weather, causing icy condition in nearby alleys and parking lots, Hosinski said.
