CHICAGO — A baby klipspringer born recently at Lincoln Park Zoo has died, the zoo announced Thursday.

The calf, named Asha, was born March 30. The zoo said Asha's mother was unable to provide adequate care, and zookeepers provided full-time care for the baby klipspringer, who the zoo said was thriving.

But on Wednesday, a zookeeper found Asha unresponsive in her habitat and rushed her to a veterinary hospital, where she was confirmed dead. The cause of her death is unknown, zoo officials said, and the results of a necropsy are expected to take several weeks.

Klipspringers are a type of dwarf antelope found in central and eastern Africa. Asha was born to Dash and Triumph, who were part of the Klipspringer Survival Program.
