DUI Crackdown Planned for the Dan Ryan This Weekend

CHICAGO — There will be no shortage of police along the Dan Ryan Expressway this weekend as cops will be out in force looking for drunken drivers.

The Chicago Police Department said it will conduct two DUI strike force patrols this weekend on the Dan Ryan between 31st and 111th streets. During the patrols, officers will be on the lookout for drunken drivers, speeders and safety belt violations.

The first patrol will be from 8 p.m. Friday to 4 a.m. Saturday and the second will be from 8 p.m. Saturday to 4 a.m. Sunday.

In addition to the Chicago Police, the Illinois State Police will set up DUI checkpoints along exit ramps on the South Side this month.

State police will be set up from 11 p.m. Friday to 4 a.m. Saturday on the southbound ramp of the Dan Ryan at 87th Street and the northbound exit of the Stevenson Expressway at Wood Street. From 11 p.m. Saturday to 4 a.m. Sunday, troopers will monitor the Interstate 57 southbound exit at 119th Street.
