LINCOLN SQUARE — It's lederhosen time again in Lincoln Square with the arrival of Maifest.

In part a nod to the neighborhood's German heritage, but mostly an excuse to turn the intersection of Lincoln and Leland avenues into a giant beer garden, Maifest kicked off Thursday and runs through Sunday evening (complete schedule here).

Brats will be served, kegs will be tapped, people will wear silly hats — and four months later we'll do it all over again at Oktoberfest.

Other events to check out:

North Center

The Northcenter Neighborhood Association takes its turn at hosting a community yard sale this weekend, 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday. A map of the more than 40 participating homes can be found here.

Irving Park

No garden of your own, or can't get enough of playing in the dirt? Spend a couple of hours planting vegetables and doing general cleanup at Carlson Community Services' Three Brothers Garden from 9:30-11:30 a.m. Saturday at 4107 N. Pulaski Road. Harvested produce is donated to the Irving Park Community Food Pantry.

Roscoe Village

The Chicago Moving Company offers a sampling of contemporary dance styles featuring performances by the troupe's independent dance artists at 7:30 p.m. Friday at Hamlin Park, 3035 N. Hoyne Ave. Tickets are $5, available at the door.

Put some streamers on your handlebars and join the Roscoe Village Kidical Mass at 10 a.m. Sunday at Audubon Elementary, 3500 N. Hoyne Ave. This easy-going ride through the neighborhood is free and open to all — a great way to teach kids the rules of the road.

Albany Park

Halcyon Theatre's "Alcyone Festival 2014: Inspirations" celebrates women writing for the stage. The fest runs Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays through June 22 at Christ Lutheran Church, 4541 N. Spaulding Ave. Schedule and ticket information found here.

The Chicago Dream House is a day-long project that blends art and social engagement to examine issues related to the housing crisis, specifically the displacement of tenants from foreclosed buildings. The event includes mural painting, discussion forums and a community potluck from 11 a.m.-7 p.m. at 5141 N. Kimball Ave.

Roosevelt High School hosts a community festival celebrating unity and diversity from 9:30 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday. Meet at 3436 W. Wilson Ave. for a walk through the neighborhood, followed by an afternoon of games, music, food, hoops, a bike clinic, bounce house and more.

Lincoln Square

For the cherry on top of this weekend sundae, head to Rockwell's Neighborhood Grill, where the pub winds up its month-long 10th anniversary celebration with a beer and ice cream social, starting at 11 a.m. Saturday. Barkeeps will be tapping special drafts all day long and scooping out servings of housemade, beer-infused ice creams.
